Historic Milwaukee, Inc. is set to honor the Pabst Theater Foundation at their annual Remarkable Milwaukee event, which will take place on Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Turner Hall Ballroom and the Pabst Theater.
HMI's Remarkable Milwaukee event honors a company or organization that has shaped the historic, architectural, and cultural character of the City of Milwaukee. Past honorees are Johnson Controls, the Pfister Hotel, the Marcus Corporation, Zilber Ltd, and Northwestern Mutual. For this year's event, HMI will pay tribute to the Pabst Theater Foundation, the non-profit organization that operates the Pabst Theater, Riverside Theater, and the Turner Hall Ballroom.
"The Pabst Theater Foundation has dedicated immeasurable time and countless resources to the restoration of these beautiful theaters, ensuring that the citizens of Milwaukee will be able to enjoy the Pabst Theater, Riverside Theater, and Turner Hall Ballroom for generations to come. For this and numerous other reasons, Historic Milwaukee Inc. has chosen The Pabst Theater Foundation as the honoree for the Fifth Annual Remarkable Milwaukee event," said Elizabeth Noonan, Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator for HMI.
In addition to the event itself, Historic Milwaukee will collaborate with the Pabst Theater Foundation for the next year for special programming, tours, and sponsorship.
"The Pabst Theater Foundation knows Milwaukeeans are enthusiastic about bringing new ideas to the city while maintaining existing places and connections in the community. Like HMI, our organization embraces new ideas within a historic setting every day," said Andrew Nelson, the Pabst Theater Foundation's Public Relations Manager. "For this reason, we feel a partnership with Historic Milwaukee, Inc, beginning with the Remarkable Milwaukee event, will further enhance our mission of melding the old and new in Milwaukee."
The Remarkable Milwaukee event promises to be an evening of culture, history, networking, food, and fun. The event will begin with a cocktail hour, beginning at 5:00 PM at the Pabst Theater (144 E. Wells St). This will be followed by a round-table discussion, "Envisioning the Seen ", which assures a lively, positive, conversation about what we want for the future of Milwaukee's built environment.
The distinct blend of theater and moderated discussion that the round table presents is set to feature notable Milwaukeeans and diverse city leaders, such as CEO of Congress for New Urbanism and former Milwaukee mayor John Norquist, real estate attorney Bruce Block, Pabst Theater Executive Director Gary Witt, artist Reginald Baylor, author Jill Moran, architect Grace La, EVP of Zilber Ltd. John Kersey, developer Gary Grunau, historian John Gurda, conceptual artist Sara Daleiden, activist James Godsil, owner of Lowlands Group Mike Eitel. Subsequently, there will be a dinner, silent auction, and presentations with Michael Cudahy, Gary Witt, and Anna-Marie Opgenorth at Turner Hall Ballroom (1034 N. 4th St.), from 7:30 to 9:30 PM.
Since 1974 Historic Milwaukee, Inc. ("HMI") has been dedicated to increasing awareness of and commitment to Milwaukee's history, architecture, and the preservation of our built environment through education and advocacy. Milwaukee has the fortune to grow economically and culturally by investing resources in building awareness of our unique history, architecture, and the sustainability of our one-of-a-kind built environment. Communities that showcase their unique sense of place, their heritage, diversity, and distinction attract more people. In 2011 HMI shared Milwaukee stories, directly, to over 30,000 people. People, not buildings, make history. HMI works productively and proactively with city officials, developers, businesses, neighborhood groups, other nonprofits, and diverse individuals to promote historic preservation and heritage conservation as economically, environmentally and culturally sustainable development tools.
